Great sentiment but the wrong tone. I do whole hardly agree that in the software there is not enough ownership and accountability we are too lenient (to ourselves and others) when mistakes do happen.

To give some contrast Engineers in Canada have an interesting tradition before graduating its called the ‘Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer’ and is a ceremony meant to remember young engineers their moral obligation to do the right thing no matter what or where they are.

Software development could use some of that sentiment when the question of taking shortcuts or ‘just getting it to work’ comes into place. Collectively we need to take more pride in our profession.
